Minorities Welfare Department Directs Waqf Board to Review Legal Cell and Address Property Litigation Concerns

Hyderabad:The minorities welfare department has directed the Telangana Waqf Board to review the allegations about the handling of litigation matters and functioning of its legal cell and submit the report. The concerns had been raised by Waqf Board member Syed Bandagi Badesha Quadri in a representation. The department also asked the board to ensure proper filing of counters in respective courts.
Quadri had said that the Waqf Board was facing setbacks in various court cases regarding land disputes due to lack of evidence. Furthermore, he urged that special attention be given in obtaining occupancy right certificates (ORCs) in the name of the Waqf Board.
According to Quadri, revenue records concerning Waqf properties must list the name of the respective institution rather than individual names. However, the revenue department was issuing the ORC in the name of individual, he added.
