Minor girl dies of burn injuries after 4-week battle
Hyderabad: A four-year-old girl who suffered severe burns in Cherlapally died on Thursday after battling her injuries in a hospital for four weeks. She was injured when a petrol container, allegedly left open by Sai Kumar, a car owner, caught fire.
The victim was identified as Jashmitha, a native of Srikakulam. Another victim of the fire, Maheshwari, aged seven, a native of Choppadandi, Karimanagar, had died last week.
Sai Kumar has been booked for negligence. Cherlapally inspector Ravi Kumar said that Sai Kumar had been charged with negligence after taking legal opinion because the accused’s carelessness was not intentional. The inspector said the police had taken into consideration the statement of a boy in the vicinity of the place where the incident took place.
According to Cherlapally sub-inspector Ch Shekar, it was initially assumed that the fire was caused by crackers, on November 1. The car caught fire and the two girls who were playing near it sustained serious burns.
Investigations, however, revealed that Sai Kumar had filled petrol in his car’s tank with a contained. He left the container open, and the car was parked near lamps that were lit for Kartika Masam. It is suspected that petrol fumes from the open container caught fire, leading to the blaze.
