Nalgonda: Roads and buildings minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Thursday directed officials of the health department to prepare a plan for distributing newborn kits at the Mother and Child Hospital of the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Nalgonda.
Inaugurating new dialysis medical equipment at the GGH, the minister said the Komatireddy Pratheek Reddy Foundation, established in memory of his late son, would provide the necessary funds if the hospital submits a proposal for distributing kits containing essential items for newborns. These kits, he added, should be given to women delivering babies at the hospital.
During a review meeting with doctors in the superintendent’s chamber, Venkat Reddy urged them to submit proposals for additional medical equipment and facilities, promising to take up the matter with the government for necessary sanctions. He assured full support for strengthening government hospitals in the district, including filling vacant posts and improving departments such as the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), and Orthopedics.
He also instructed health officials to conduct regular blood donation camps through the hospital's blood bank.
Earlier, the minister laid the foundation stone for a Government Nursing College building, to be constructed at a cost of ₹40 crore on the premises of the Government Medical College at SLBC Colony. He reiterated the state government's commitment to providing quality education to students from economically weaker sections, enabling their financial and social empowerment.
He noted that the government is following a two-pronged strategy of promoting quality education and skill development to prepare students for the corporate job market. He also announced a bus donation for the Government Medical College in Nalgonda through the Komatireddy Pratheek Foundation and informed that the groundbreaking ceremony for the Young India International School would be held on August 4.
The minister highlighted that ₹20,000 crore has been sanctioned by the state government for the construction of Young India International Schools across Telangana.
Referring to developments in higher education, he said significant improvements have been initiated at Mahatma Gandhi University in Nalgonda since the Congress came to power. New buildings worth ₹100 crore have been constructed on the campus, and LLM and M. Pharmacy courses are expected to be launched in the next academic year.
