Mini Stadiums in Rural Areas: Minister

Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao launches Rs 8.5-crore synthetic running track project, with plans for new stadiums.

Nalgonda: Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao said on Friday that the state government is considering building mini stadiums in rural areas.

Along with Khammam MP Ramasahayam Raghuram Reddy, he laid the foundation stone for an Rs 8.5-crore synthetic running track at Sardar Patel Stadium in Khammam.

The minister noted that the government aims to nurture athletic talent from rural communities, adding that both full-scale stadiums and mini-stadiums will be developed across urban and rural regions. He emphasised that the success of government programmes relies on teamwork and the coordinated efforts of elected representatives and officials.

Nageswara Rao urged athletes to make full use of the upcoming track and directed officials to identify 20 acres for a new cricket stadium in Khammam. He expressed confidence that local sportspeople would soon compete at state and national levels, and called for coaches to be appointed for athletics, cricket, and other sports. He also pledged to ask Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to sanction a large outdoor stadium, ideally located near colleges and residential schools.

MP Raghuram Reddy said the synthetic track would give young athletes the opportunity to train and compete, and asked officials to explore establishing a hockey ground in the city.

Earlier, the minister also laid the foundation stone for a Rs 1.25-crore footpath project between the IT Hub and NTR Circle.
