Metro DPR For Medchal, Shamirpet Next Week
The Cabinet will also approve the DPR for the metro corridor connecting Shamshabad airport to Future City.

Hyderabad:The state Cabinet is expected to approve the detailed project report (DPR) for the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-2 (Part-B) project next week, to extend the system to Medchal and to Shamirpet from the Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) in Secunderabad, according to official sources. The Cabinet will also approve the DPR for the metro corridor connecting Shamshabad airport to Future City.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced the Part-B project as a 'New Year gift' on January 1 this year. He directed Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) to prepare DPRs for two major metro routes, a 23-kilometre stretch from Paradise to Medchal and a 22-kilometre route from JBS to Shamirpet. A third corridor, linking Shamshabad airport to Future City, will span 40 kilometres.
The JBS-Medchal Metro Rail will pass through Tadbund, Bowenpally, Suchitra Circle, and Kompally and the JBS-Shamirpet Metro Rail will pass through Vikrampuri, Karkhana, Alwal, and Bolaram.
The CM had set an April 2 deadline for the completion of the DPRs. While the target was missed, the DPRs have now been finalised and are set to be presented for approval at the upcoming Cabinet meeting.
Similar to Phase-1 of the project, Phase-2 Part-B will be implemented as a joint venture between the Central and state governments. The proposed corridors may feature innovative double-decker elevated structures, blending metro viaducts and elevated roadways.
To ease traffic congestion in central Secunderabad and Hyderabad, the HMDA has also proposed two elevated corridors under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. The first, a stretch of 11.12 kilometres, will run from Paradise Junction to the Shamirpet ORR junction, while the second will span 5.32 kilometres, linking Paradise Junction to Dairy Farm Road along NH-44. These elevated corridors are expected to integrate with the proposed metro lines.
The DPRs will be first approved by the HAML Board, which includes the Chief Secretary, five directors who include secretaries of five departments, and the HAML managing director. After the board’s approval, the final clearance will be given by the state cabinet.
During his recent visit to Japan, Revanth Reddy examined the integration of Metro Rail, bullet trains and suburban railways in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Inspired by this model, the CM directed the HAML to consider a similar approach for Phase-2 Part-B.
He asked officials to explore the possibility of developing the JBS Metro Rail station in Secunderabad into a major hub, integrating three lines and a bus station on 30 acres of land. This ambitious project aims to make Hyderabad’s metro network one of the most connected and efficient in the country.
