Medak Youth Congress Leader Found Dead Under Suspicious Conditions
Sub-Inspector Mohammed Ghouse said an investigation is underway to determine whether it was suicide or murder. The body has been shifted for post-mortem examination.
Hyderabad, July 15: Marelli Anil, president of the Congress SC cell in Medak district, was shot to death on Sunday evening while he was driving his four-wheeler at Kulcharam on Monday. Police suspect that some occupants of an unidentified car that following him shot him dead.
Anil was returning from Hyderabad after attending a meeting at Gandhi Bhavan, the state Congress headquarters. The incident took place around 7.30 pm on Monday at Chinnaghanpur near a substation.
Onlookers noticed a vehicle veering off the road and hitting a culvert. They rushed to rescue the occupant, later identified as Anil, and moved him to a hospital.
A senior official explained, “Anil was coming from Hyderabad to the village when he was killed. He was at the wheel. It is suspected that another car overtook Anil’s car and its occupants shot him.” Anil was a well-known personality at Kulcharam village and survived by two children.
It is suspected that there are at least four members in the assailants’ car. The deceased reportedly had the habit of driving with the vehicle windows open, was targeted easily and was killed. “The doctors found bullets in the body and also at the crime spot,” confirmed the officer.
Anil was shot four to six times, where the doctors found four bullets on his back and left hand, including the chest area. Later, hospital officials informed the police about the death. The police formed four teams, who are on the lookout for the unidentified accused.
It is suspected that the deceased was involved in a real estate settlement, which led to the opposite party taking revenge on him. “We are looking at every possible angle,” said the police officer.
