May To Be Labour Festival Month: Labour Unions Prez
May is declared as 'Karmika Masotsavam' to honour workers; key demands include wage hikes and enhanced job guarantees.

Warangal: President of various labour unions and former government chief whip Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar said the month of May will be celebrated as Karmika Masotsavam (Labour Festival Month) to recognise the contributions of both organised and unorganised workers. He said this while participating in the May Day celebrations at Lashkar Bazaar in Hanamkonda on Thursday.
Bhaskar said that throughout the month, a series of events, medical camps for workers and their families and awareness programmes on labour rights and welfare schemes will be held. A round-table meetings with various trade unions will also be organised to address their issues and strategise for future action.
One of the key demands raised during the Labour Festival will be the immediate implementation of a minimum monthly wage of Rs 25,000 for all municipal workers employed on an outsourcing basis, he added. Additional demands articulated as part of the labour festival include increasing the number of guaranteed workdays under the MGNREGA scheme from 100 to 150 days, with a daily wage of Rs 350, and ensuring minimum wages for gram panchayat workers.
