Madigas should get 11% quota: MRPS
Madigas did not get due 11%: Manda Krishna

Hyderabad: Mandal Krishna Madiga, leader of the Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS), stated that the quota for Madigas and other castes in their group has been reduced to 9 per cent from the rightful 11 per cent. He called for the restoration of the full 11 per cent, claiming that the Madiga population is double that of the Malas. He also informed the rally planned for February 7, demanding the early implementation of SC categorisation, has been postponed. The permission for the rally was denied by the city police commissioner and the DGP, who cited security concerns, including the participation of one lakh drums, as reasons for the deferral.
Speaking to the media at the Somajiguda Press Club, Manda Krishna said, "I welcome the Telangana government's approval for categorization and its rejection of the creamy layer as proposed by the one-man commission headed by Justice Shameem Akhtar. However, the categorisation process failed to consider the backward status of Madigas along with our numbers and seemed to have been influenced by political motives. Castes that are relatively more forward, like Pambala, have been placed in Group A, which is meant for the most backward castes among SCs."
“The survey shows the number of Malas at 15,27,163 and Madigas at 32,33,642. "Our numbers exceed the Malas, which should justify an 11 per cent quota for us. Whether based on population or backwardness, we deserve our due," he added. He further explained that the Pambala caste, which has only around 1,000 members in the state, has about 100 government employees. This equates to one employee for every tenth person in the caste, yet Pambalas have been placed in the Group A. "This allocation has been made based on political gain rather than actual backwardness," he said.
Manda Krishna also pointed out that the Manne caste, although relatively better off, is still categorised in Group A. Regarding the Neta Kani caste, which has the third-highest population among SCs, Madiga claimed it has been placed in the SC-B, which is Malas’ category, to increase the quota for Malas to 5 per cent. He attributed this to the influence of Congress MLA G. Vivek Venkataswamy, blaming Damodar Rajanasimha for failing to safeguard the interests of the Madigas.
Manda Krishna further stated that the community should be allotted two cabinet berths if the cabinet is expanded. "Why should we not have two Madigas in the ministry when there are four Reddys?" he quipped.
