Hyderabad: The leopard whose reported presence led to the closure of Forest Trek Park near Manchirevula has still not been caught. Forest officials last spotted it on CCTV near the Golconda Artillery Centre around 3.30 am on Monday.
According to Lakshman, the forest range officer from Chilkur, the leopard was first spotted on July 21 near open grounds. It stayed there for four days before moving towards Manchirevula. After that, it was seen on camera but hasn’t been spotted again.
“We think it is still inside the defence area. If it stays in one place, we can catch it. But it keeps moving, so it’s making it harder,” said Lakshman.
So far, no pet or animal deaths have been reported in the area. The forest department has placed 14 camera traps and two cages to catch the leopard. Two teams with about 15 forest staff and watchers are monitoring the area day and night.
Lakshman added, “We believe the leopard may return to the same spot, as there are no disturbances there. We are watching closely and hope to catch it soon.”
