Man Sentenced to 10 Years For Dowry Death
Nalgonda superintendent of police Sharath Chandra Pawar urging victims to approach police without fear
HYDERABAD: A women’s court in Nalgonda has sentenced a 25‑year‑old man to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment for causing the death of his wife due to dowry harassment in a case registered by Kattangur police in 2015.
The conviction was delivered by M. Kiran Mahi, special sessions judge for fast‑tracking cases relating to atrocities against women‑cum‑IV Additional District and Sessions Judge, Nalgonda.
The convict, Surarapu Saidulu of Yerrasanigudem village in Kattangur mandal, was found guilty under IPC Section 304B and Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act. The court sentenced him to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment under Section 304B and six months’ simple imprisonment with a fine of ₹5,000 under Section 4. In default of payment, he will undergo an additional one month’s simple imprisonment. Both sentences will run concurrently.
The investigation was carried out by then officers M. Vijaya Prakash, sub‑inspector, Kattangur, and B. Ramulu Naik and S. Sudhakar, then SDPOs of Nalgonda. The prosecution was represented by aditional public prosecutors R. Akhila and G. Venkata Ramana Reddy, along with public prosecutor Sreevani Damodaram.
Nalgonda superintendent of police Sharath Chandra Pawar said police would deal sternly with cases of dowry harassment, domestic violence and crimes against women, urging victims to approach police without fear. He appreciated the investigation, liaison and prosecution teams for securing the conviction.
