The victim immediately filed a complaint dialing the number 1930
Hyderabad: A 44-year-old employee working in a private company and a resident of Kukatpally, became victim of a cyber fraudster and lost `12,80,000. He was lured to invest in the fake stocks. A self-declared “professor” named Dinesh Thakkar persuaded the victim and gave tips on investing in stocks.
As per the instructions, the victim downloaded the “one Angle one pro block app” and thereafter he was added to a WhatsApp group named “Set Sails for Everyone”. The so-called ‘professor’ Dinesh Thakkar began guiding the victim.
Thakkar gave online stock trading lessons and also shared inputs on IPOs to the victim. The victim was then contacted by an assistant of the Thakkar, whose name was Anita Rivera. She was sending stocks recommendations, in the form of notifications, to the victim who was then investing as per the tips. He was also taught about institutional funds and OTC stocks. Eventually, he started investing, ranging from `10,000 to `5 laks in five transactions to two different bank accounts. He saw the profits on the virtual screen surging and tried to withdraw the amount. For this, he contacted the assistant for the help, but he was quickly blocked on the WhatsApp group. The victim immediately filed a complaint dialing the number 1930. Later, a case was filed by the cyber sleuths and a probe is underway.
