Hyderabad, July 25: A birthday celebration ended in tragedy in Abdullapurmet when a man stabbed his estranged wife in front of shocked family members. The incident occurred at SC Colony on Thursday evening. Police have taken the accused into custody and will produce him before a magistrate.
According to the police, the accused, S. Srinu, 38, and the deceased, Seethakka, 35, were residents of Suryapet. The couple frequently quarrelled and had separated following several disputes in the presence of their families and a local panchayat.
A complaint was filed by Rajeshwari, Srinu’s niece, stating that Seethakka had moved to Abdullapurmet’s BC Colony after the separation. On Thursday, Rajeshwari invited her aunt to attend her daughter’s birthday party. Though initially reluctant, Seethakka eventually agreed to attend.
Family members and children had gathered for the celebration when Srinu unexpectedly turned up. Despite some tension over his presence, the family continued with the event. As party poppers went off and the cake was about to be cut, Srinu pulled out a knife and stabbed Seethakka three times.
The shocked relatives found Seethakka lying in a pool of blood. The house owner and her son rushed in after hearing the commotion and spotted Srinu fleeing the scene. According to police, neighbours attempted to stop him, but Srinu brandished the knife and threatened them.
While fleeing, he allegedly shouted that his wife was having an illicit affairhe allegedly shouted that his wife was having an illicit affair and "deserved" the attack. Inspector Ashok Reddy confirmed that Srinu was later apprehended and is in custody.
