Hyderabad: The Hyderabad traffic police detected a case involving the use of a fake vehicle number plate during enforcement checks.
Based on the findings, the police registered a criminal case at Banjara Hills police station and apprehended a 23-year-old private employee Karthika Jaya of Madinaguda in Serilingampally.
Police found that the accused used a fake registration number plate — TG07AE0286 (registered to a scooter) — on his unregistered bike, whose temporary number was TG07KT/R0826. The fake number plate belonged to another vehicle owner, resulting in traffic challans being wrongly issued to her.
The case was solved through coordinated efforts of the Hyderabad traffic police and Banjara Hills law and order police. Police warned that using tampered number plates is a serious punishable offence and said advanced systems such as CCTV and ANPR cameras are being used to identify such violations.
The police advised citizens to report suspicious number plate misuse through the Hyderabad Traffic e-Challan Portal, email at echallanhelpdesk.hyd@gmail.com, or WhatsApp at 8712661690.
