Man Gets 20 Years’ Jail For Raping Minor

KARIMNAGAR: In a landmark judgment, a 47-year-old man accused of raping a minor girl was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined ₹10,000 by Principal District and Sessions Judge Ratna Padmavathi, who heads the Fast-Track Special Court for Pocso cases, here on Monday. The court also awarded ₹7 lakh as compensation to the minor victim.
The case pertained to an offence committed by the accused, Katukari Ashok, within the Kodimyal Police Station limits. A case was registered against him under the Pocso Act in 2023. Investigating officers, including then Inspectors Krishan Kumar, Kishore, and Ramanamurthy, conducted the investigation and gathered crucial evidence before filing the charge sheet in the Fast-Track Special Court.
After examining all witnesses and reviewing the evidence presented by the Public Prosecutor and Court Duty Officers, Judge Ratna Padmavathi delivered the verdict, ensuring swift justice for the victim.
Police superintendent Ashok Kumar said no criminal can escape punishment and commended the effective coordination between the police and prosecution departments for the speedy trial.
The SP also lauded public prosecutor Ramakrishna Rao and the dedicated efforts of the investigation team and court staff, including CMS sub-inspector Srikanth and court constables Sagar, Sridhar, and Kiran Kumar, for their commitment in securing the conviction.
