A 35-year-old man in Bhongir died by suicide after online betting losses left him in financial distress and unable to repay borrowed money.

A 35-year-old man died by suicide in Banjara Hills in Bhongir of Yadadri-Bhongir district on Monday after suffering financial distress due to losses incurred through online betting apps.
The deceased, Gandamalla Bharath, was a native of Renukunta village in Rajapet mandal of the district. He was living with his family in a rented house in Banjara Hills and working at a private finance company.
According to police, Bharath had allegedly lost substantial amounts of money through online betting apps and was unable to repay the money he had borrowed from others. He was alone at home as his wife, Santhosha, and their daughter had gone to her parents’ house for the Dasara festival.
Before his death, Bharath reportedly sent a WhatsApp message to his wife, saying he was unable to overcome his habit of betting online and asking her to take care of their daughter. After receiving the message, Santhosha alerted neighbours, who went to the house and found Bharath hanging from a ceiling fan. They alerted the police.
In a suicide note, Bharath reportedly described how his involvement in online betting had ruined his life. Bhongir Town police reached the spot and shifted the body to the mortuary of the Area Hospital in Bhongir for a post-mortem examination. Police registered a case and are investigating the betting apps allegedly used by Bharath, with the help of an application installed on his mobile phone.
