Man Borrows Heavily, Loses Rs.15 L in Bets, Ends Life After Letter to PM
Police said Naresh began betting casually but soon lost control, borrowing money from loan apps to fund his addiction. He believed he could recover his losses, but only sank deeper into debt, leading to depression and isolation.

Hyderabad: “Modi sir, please ban betting apps and save the youth of this country.” These were the last words written by a 38-year-old postal department employee before ending his life over a financial crisis caused by his betting addiction.
The deceased, identified as A. Naresh, a resident of Asmanagar under Vanasthalipuram police limits, had suffered losses of around Rs.15 lakh through betting apps. In his suicide note, he appealed directly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take strict action against such platforms, claiming they were ruining countless families and destroying the future of India’s youth.
Police said Naresh began betting casually but soon lost control, borrowing money from loan apps to fund his addiction. He believed he could recover his losses, but only sank deeper into debt, leading to depression and isolation.
Living with his wife, a work-from-home techie, and their six-year-old daughter in Sahara Estate, Naresh earned about Rs.85,000 per month. On the day of the incident, he sent his wife to a nearby pharmacy, saying he had stomach pain. By the time she returned, she found him unresponsive. Neighbours rushed to help, but he was declared dead at the hospital.
His body was shifted to Osmania General Hospital for post-mortem before being handed over to the family, who took him to Vizianagaram for the final rites. A case has been registered under Section 194 of the BNS and is under investigation.
