KARIMNAGAR: A tense atmosphere prevailed at the Collectorate in Peddapalli district on Monday when a man attempted suicide during the grievance day programme, frustrated over not receiving a compassionate (Karunya) appointment following his father’s death.
The man, identified as Bandi Satish from Kishtampeta village in Kalva Srirampur mandal, consumed pesticide in the attempt. Earlier, while attending the programme, Satish alleged that despite repeated appeals at Prajavani, he had been denied the promised job.
His father, Bandi Lingaiah, a sweeper at a government school, died of a snakebite while on duty during Republic Day preparations on January 26 last year.
According to Satish, Zilla Parishad CEO Narendra and other officials had assured him of his late father’s job since the death occurred in the line of duty. However, he claimed that officials later ignored his pleas, forcing him into desperation after repeated visits to government offices.
Officials rushed Satish to hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
