Malkajgiri Launches Margadarshak Volunteers Under Mee Suraksha

Malkajgiri police in collaboration with the Malkajgiri Security Council (MKSC), launched the first batch of the Margadarshak orientation programme under the flagship Mee Suraksha initiative aimed at strengthening community support for women, children, senior citizens and other vulnerable sections.

MALKAJGIRI: Malkajgiri police in collaboration with the Malkajgiri Security Council (MKSC), launched the first batch of the Margadarshak orientation programme under the flagship Mee Suraksha initiative aimed at strengthening community support for women, children, senior citizens and other vulnerable sections.

The programme, commenced by Commissioner of Police B. Sumathi, seeks to build a network of trained community volunteers, who can guide people in distress to appropriate institutional support, including the police, legal aid, counselling centres and emergency services.

Women safety wing DCP and MKSC convener T. Usha Rani along with representatives from the women’s forum, Sakhi one stop centre and MKSC, attended the orientation programme.

Officials stressed that community participation is essential in creating a safer environment and said volunteers would serve as referral guides rather than intervening directly in incidents. Besides connecting victims with support agencies, the volunteers will also spread awareness on women’s safety, cybercrime, legal rights and emergency helplines.

The Margadarshak initiative follows a public-private partnership model, bringing together the police and civil society through MKSC. Officials said the initiative is expected to bridge the gap between vulnerable individuals and formal support systems by ensuring timely guidance and assistance at the community level.
