Major Fire Mishap Averted in Cherlapally
The fire was attributed to an electrical defect

HYDERABAD: A major tragedy was averted when officers from the Cherlapally fire station quickly acted upon a distress call at 1.23 pm, informing them that three heavy vehicles had caught fire in Cherlapally, on Sunday.
According to Cherlapally SFO K. Chandrashekhar, an empty tanker of Bharat Petroleum caught fire while it was carrying out a trial run after some repairs. The fire was attributed to an electrical defect. As soon as the driver noticed the fire, he parked the vehicle aside and fled. “According to what locals said, the fire was erupting from the vehicle’s bonnet,” the SFO said.
The place where the burning tanker was left had two domestic lorries stationed beside it, loaded with LPG gas cylinders. When locals informed the fire department about the mishap, they rushed to the spot. By that time, the two domestic lorries were partially burnt, and the tanker was completely gutted.
The fire officers reached on the right time and averted a major explosion from occurring. Using foam compound and water, the fire was doused within 15 minutes.
“It seems like there was some loose wiring that led to the fire in the bonnet of the tanker,” the SFO said.
The tanker’s owner, Janardhan, reached the spot on receiving information about the incident. Speaking of the case, Cherlapally Inspector B Ravi Kumar said, “We have not received a complaint yet but are expecting it soon. A case would be registered.”
The rescue operation was carried out by K Chandra Shekar, SFO, R Adarsh, leading fireman, M Hanumath Rao, driver operator, A Ganesh, fireman, G Rami Reddy, fireman, and M Babu Kumar, fireman.
