Lottery Brings Home Hope To Hyderabad Tenants
An online lottery selected 480 primary beneficiaries in each of four Hyderabad constituencies for Indiramma Indlu flats, bringing hope to families living in rented homes.

For families who have spent years in rented homes, Tuesday brought a moment of hope as their names were drawn in the online lottery for Indiramma Indlu flats in Goshamahal, Chandrayangutta, LB Nagar and Musheerabad Assembly constituency.
The Telangana Housing Board selected 480 primary beneficiaries in each constituency and placed another 120 applicants on the waiting list. For the first time, the selection was conducted through an online lottery, replacing the traditional physical draw held in the presence of applicants.
Under the pilot project, 480 flats are being built in each constituency within the Outer Ring Road limits, excluding the Cantonment area. Beneficiaries had earlier been selected through lotteries in 16 constituencies. Tuesday’s exercise extended the process to four more. Minister Ponnam Prabhakar launched the e-lottery at the Gruhakalpa office in Nampally, in the presence of Goshamahal MLA T. Raja Singh, Housing Board managing director V.P. Goutham and other officials.
For Komal, one of the primary beneficiaries, the allotment brought relief after years of uncertainty about owning a home. She thanked the government for providing her with a house and a ration card.
Another beneficiary, Bachala Chaitanya of Goshamahal, said she was delighted to be selected in the locality where she already lived. After spending several years in a rented house, owning a home had long been her dream.
Other beneficiaries selected in the lottery included Madhugula Mamatha, Gyadari Nandini, Chinnapaga Veeramani and Amara Keerthi.
Goutham said 480 applicants in each constituency had been selected as primary beneficiaries, while 120 were placed on the waiting list. Waiting-list applicants would be considered if primary beneficiaries were found ineligible during field verification.
The proceedings were livestreamed on the housing department’s YouTube channel and other social media platforms to ensure transparency.
The Housing Board will hold a mop-up lottery on November 4 to allot vacant flats in the 16 constituencies where lotteries had been conducted earlier. Some allotments were cancelled after applicants were found ineligible during field verification or failed to make the required payment.
Speaking at the event, Prabhakar said the government was identifying land in Hyderabad for modern housing projects. Land availability and high construction costs remained major challenges for urban housing, he said, adding that a foundation-laying ceremony for the proposed project would be held shortly.
The government was also ready to sanction houses to eligible poor families who owned plots and wanted to build homes, he said. Around 2,000 applicants in the L1 category would also be considered.
