Lorry Driver Dies By Suicide In Khammam; Family Alleges Finance Firm Harassment

Driver Venkanna is survived by his wife and two sons: Reports

KHAMMAM: A 57-year-old lorry driver was found dead in his vehicle’s cabin in Khammam on Saturday, allegedly after being harassed by recovery agents of a private finance company over pending loan instalments.

The deceased, Arvapalli Venkanna, was a native of Danavaigudem in Khammam rural mandal. He had taken a vehicle loan from Sri Ram Finance and reportedly missed three equated monthly instalments (EMIs) because of financial difficulties.

According to the allegations, representatives of the finance company pressured him to clear the overdue instalments immediately and warned that the vehicle would be seized if he failed to pay. They also allegedly rejected his request for more time to make the payments

Venkanna is survived by his wife and two sons.

Based on a complaint from his family, Khammam rural police registered a case and are investigating the allegations.

Lorry Owners Association town president Boyapati Krishna Kumari demanded stringent action against the finance company’s representatives over the alleged harassment.
