Local Body Polls: Police In Warangal, Karimnagar, Ramagundam On High Alert

WARANGAL/KARIMNAGAR: The police in Warangal, Karimnagar and Ramagundam have announced massive security arrangements including deployment of thousands of police personnel for the first phase of the Gram Panchayat elections on Thursday.

Police commissioners Sunpreet Singh of Warangal, Gouse Alam of Karimnagar and Kishore Amber Jha of Ramagundam said their goal is to ensure free, fair and peaceful polling.

Across the three commissionerates, the authorities have seized large stocks of liquor and bound over thousands of individuals to prevent disturbances.

Police forces have been strategically mobilized across these regions to cover the extensive polling network, which includes several critical and sensitive centers. Some 2,000 police personnel were deployed across the Warangal police commissionerate limits, around 782 police personnel in Karimanagar commissionerate limits and 1,600 in Ramagundam limits.

Since the model code of conduct came into effect, police have intensified checks and enforcement, yielding significant results. They seized over `6.04 lakh in cash in Warangal, `6.84 lakh in Ramagundam along with liquor valued at over Rs 19 lakh, and liquor worth Rs 10.67 lakh in Karimnagar.

A total of 2,205 people in Warangal, 1,147 in Karimnagar and 781 in Ramagundam with prior records of election disturbances or suspicious activity were bound over under legal provisions.

A total of 156 licensed guns in Warangal, 97 in Karimnagar and 34 in Ramagundam were deposited.

Every polling station would have dedicated police teams. ACP-level officers would oversee each mandal and issue a strong warning that anyone attempting to disrupt the election process or influence voters with money, liquor or gifts would face strict legal action.

Victory processions are prohibited on the day of the election results, the commissioners said, and urged citizens and political parties to cooperate with the police fully to ensure a smooth and peaceful exercise of people’s franchise.
