Coinbase CEO thanks Hyderabad cybercrime police

Hyderabad: The CEO of American cryptocurrency company Coinbase, Brian Armstrong, has thanked Hyderabad cybercrime police for arresting an accused in connection with a major hacking incident involving the company.

According to Armstrong, Coinbase was hit by a cyberattack earlier this year, beginning in January. He stated that hackers had bribed individuals associated with the company outside the United States to gain unauthorised access to customer data. The company has estimated that the cyberattack could have resulted in losses of up to $400 million.

Coinbase acknowledged the role played by Telangana Police, crediting their investigative approach and coordination with enforcement agencies in tracking down those involved. In this context, Telangana police recently arrested a former agent linked to the cybercrime in India.

Responding to the development, Armstrong posted on X, saying, “Thank you Hyderabad Police. May the rest of those who helped the hackers suffer the same fate,” police sources said on Saturday.
