Guzzlers Down Rs 1,350 crore Worth Liquor In 6 Days In New Year Revelry
On New Year's Eve, wine shops (A-4 licenses) were permitted to stay open until midnight, while licensed bars, clubs, and approved event venues served liquor until 1 am

Hyderabad; Liquor worth Rs 1,350 crore was purchased in just six days across the state, including Rs 750 crore on December 30-31. State excise officials sold 8.3 lakh cases of IMFL and 7.78 lakh cases of beer in the 2,620 shops statewide during this period.
The December sales at Rs 5,102 crore smashed last year’s total of Rs 3,500 crore for the same month. Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy topped charts as beer sales in December spiked by 107 per cent.
On New Year's Eve, wine shops (A-4 licenses) were permitted to stay open until midnight, while licensed bars, clubs, and approved event venues served liquor until 1 am.
The excise department had procured ample stocks for catering to the new year demand and credited the record sales to the efforts of new licensees.
Enforcement teams ran special checks on December 30-31 for order, stocking 14 lakh UBL beer cases despite supply hiccups. This fits the trend as 2024-25 raked in Rs 34,600 crore sales (up from Rs 33,535 crore prior), and also got over Rs 30,000 crore through auctions and hikes in the current financial year.
The authorities are expecting bumper sales during the coming Sankranti season.
