New cess may raise liquor rates by Rs 10–Rs 40 across sizes; beer prices hiked earlier

Hyderabad: The government is reportedly planning to levy special excise cess (SEC) on liquor, which would raise prices across various brands by at least Rs 10 on 180 ml, Rs 20 on 375 ml and Rs 40 on 750 ml. “So far, there has been no communication from the excise department. We learnt that there would be an increase in prices in one or two days,” a wine dealer from Hanamkonda said. This follows a 15 per cent hike in the price of beer in February.
