Lift Accident: Woman Dies After Fall From Fourth Floor
The lift was not under repair. We do not know how exactly the lift grill opened,” an official said

HYDERABAD: A 45-year-old woman died after accidentally falling into a lift pit from the fourth floor of a residential building near Bandlaguda in Rajendranagar on Monday morning.
According to Rajendranagar police, the deceased was identified as Laxmi. The incident occurred around 10 am when she was returning after collecting clothes from the penthouse to the fourth floor, as the lift starts from there. She was accompanied by a neighbour and her 60-year-old husband, Lingayya.
While returning, she reportedly opened the lift door while talking over her phone, assuming the elevator had arrived. However, the lift was on the ground floor at the time. Unaware of this, she stepped forward and fell into the pit. “The lift was not under repair. We do not know how exactly the lift grill opened,” an official said.
Her husband, a retired Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) employee, was standing behind her and immediately raised an alarm. Neighbours rushed to the spot and alerted the police. Rajendranagar police, along with the CLUES team and other personnel, reached the building and retrieved the body from the pit.
Police said the woman died on the spot due to severe head injuries sustained in the fall. The body was shifted to the Osmania mortuary for post-mortem examination and later handed over to the family.
The deceased and her husband lived in Mancherial and had come to Bandlaguda for their daughter’s delivery. The couple also have a son, who was with his sister at her flat on the second floor.
A case has been registered under Section 194 of the BNSS, and further investigation is underway.
