Officials said cages would be installed at identified locations to capture and relocate the leopard

KARIMNAGAR: A leopard killed a calf in a residential area at Pothireddypally village in Yellareddypet mandal of Rajanna Sircilla district on Tuesday night, triggering panic among residents.

The animal entered the premises of a villager, Saddula Poorna, and killed the calf, partially consuming it. The incident came to light on Wednesday morning.

Forest officials confirmed leopard presence in forest areas of Rudrangi, Marrimadla and Manala and said the animals were straying into habitations in search of prey.

Residents said movement of the animal has affected normal activity, with people avoiding fields and outdoor movement after sunset.

The forest department issued an alert in the village and surrounding areas, advising residents to remain cautious, avoid isolated movement and keep livestock secured.

Tracking teams have been deployed and are monitoring the animal’s movement using pugmarks and camera traps. Officials said cages would be installed at identified locations to capture and relocate the leopard.
