Left-Wing groups Demand Judicial Probe Into Keshav Rao Encounter

The leaders of CPI (M), CPI, CPI (ML-New Democracy), CPI (ML- Mass Line), Telangana People’s Joint Action Committee, Peoples’ Front and Civil Liberties Committee held a joint media conference at Manchikanti Bhavan at Khammam.

Nalgonda: The left parties and people’s organisations on Thursday demanded for judicial inquiry by a Supreme Court judge into the encounter that took place on Wednesday killing 26 Maoists including CPI (Maoist) Central Committee general secretary Nambala Keshav Rao.

CPI (M) district secretary Nunna Nageswara Rao pointed out that the Centre was continuing anti-Naxal operations in Dandakaranya forest in Chhattisgarh even after CPI (Maoist) expressed their willingness to hold peace talks. He urged the Centre to accept Maoists’ request for peace talks and cease fire.

The CPI district assistant secretary Dhandi Suresh said that para military forces and drones, which should be guarding the country’s borders, were instead targeting Maoists in Chhattisgarh. He described it as a war against Adivasis, who were fighting for protection of natural resources in forest areas. The Centre was conspiring to hand over natural resources in the forests of Central India to corporate companies and targeting those who were fighting against it, he added.

Peoples’ Front leader Sanjeeva Rao alleged though the Maoists were observing cease fire for the last three months seeking peace talks, the security forces were killing them in fake encounters, he added.

He faulted the Centre for hoisting the national flag on Karregutta by celebrating the killing of Adivasis in the name of fake encounters and conducting celebrations. He questioned as to why the Centre couldn’t do the same in the matter of cross-border terrorists, who killed innocent people of the country.

He alleged that the police picked up Keshav Rao from a hospital where he was getting treatment and killed him in a fake encounter. He demanded a judicial inquiry into the fake encounters in forest areas of Narayanapur and Bastar in Chhattisgarh.
