Left parties Protest Hut Demolitions In Hanamkonda

Addressing the gathering before his detention, Sambasiva Rao alleged that the government was targeting poor families while ignoring large-scale land encroachments by influential persons.

Hanamkonda: Left parties on Saturday staged a massive protest in Hanamkonda against the demolition of huts and houses belonging to poor families in Hanamkonda and Warangal districts, demanding house site pattas and construction of Indiramma houses for eligible beneficiaries.

Thousands of activists and residents participated in a rally from Ekashila Park to the Hanumakonda Collectorate. As protesters staged a road blockade near Amaraveerula Stupam, police detained CPI state secretary and MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao, CPM state secretary John Wesley and several other Left leaders, leading to tense scenes.

Addressing the gathering before his detention, Sambasiva Rao alleged that the government was targeting poor families while ignoring large-scale land encroachments by influential persons. He demanded immediate allotment of house site pattas and warned that the agitation would continue until the government addressed the issue.

The Left parties announced picketing programmes at the Hanamkonda and Warangal Collectorates on July 1 and a state-level dharna at Indira Park in Hyderabad on July 6 to press for housing rights for the poor.
