Left-Dalit Alliance Leads Four Central Panel Posts In UoH Students' Union Polls

The AISA-ASA-DSU-SFI-TSF alliance was leading four of the six central-panel contests in the University of Hyderabad Students’ Union election on Tuesday night, while it had already won a string of school-level and GS-CASH seats. Dilshada Raihan V.P. led the presidential race with 1,674 votes against ABVP-SLVD’s Naresh Podishetti on 1,298 and K. Naveen Kumar of PDSU-MSF-Fraternity-NSUI on 340. Final results for several central posts were awaited at 11.15 pm.

The trend contrasted with the 2025-26 election, when ABVP-SLVD won all six central-panel posts, according to official UoH results.

“Our immediate attention will be the mess-fee hike. We also want menstrual leave across the university, attendance relaxation for chronically ill students, a disabled-friendly and inclusive campus, and proper implementation of the transgender policy,” Raihan had said during the presidential debate. She had also proposed an internship cell, a university internship policy, a grievance system for students on internships and internship and placement melas if elected president.

Raihan had earlier also shared that she is a first-generation learner from a Muslim family in Kerala. During the presidential debate, she said her background as a student from a minority community was one reason she chose to contest, and she presented her candidature around student welfare, affordability and access.

The latest counts also put Korra Nithin Chauhan of TSF ahead in the vice-president race with 1,204 votes against ABVP-SLVD’s Barsharani Behera on 1,143. Pratik of the ASA led Venisa Choudhary 872 to 765 for general secretary, while AISA’s Sidhant was ahead of Sapthagiri 1,752 to 1,437 for joint secretary.

ABVP-SLVD remained ahead in two central contests. Madhur had 1,056 votes against ASA’s Abhinash Kumar on 993 for cultural secretary, while Banoth Sai led DSU’s Villyamkery 883 to 796 for sports secretary. Counting for different posts had reached different stages, and these were not final results.

School-level results had already given the AISA-ASA-DSU-SFI-TSF alliance all five seats in the School of Social Sciences and all three councillor seats in Humanities. The alliance also won all three councillor seats in Physics, while Sanath of AISA and Sonu of SFI took two of the three councillor seats in Economics. ABVP-SLVD, meanwhile, won all three councillor seats in the Centre for Integrated Studies.

The completed GS-CASH count gave the Integrated seat to ABVP-SLVD’s Jiyasherin with 332 votes. Naphi of the AISA-ASA-DSU-SFI-TSF alliance won the PG seat with 1,510 votes and Byagari Lavanya of the same alliance took the PhD seat with 594.
