Learning, Infra, Data Gaps Flagged At DEOs' meet

A presentation based on the Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) 2024–25 data revealed urgent infrastructure gaps in classrooms, laboratories, toilets and electricity across several districts.

Hyderabad:School education department officials on Thursday raised concerns over Aadhaar validation discrepancies in student records and flagged critical infrastructure shortages in government schools. Officials from Samagra Shiksha presented enrolment data showing a modest uptick in student registrations, but also highlighted persistent delays in Aadhaar verification for thousands of students—a prerequisite for delivering entitlements like mid-day meals, textbooks and uniforms.

“This is directly affecting data accuracy and benefits delivery,” said one official, urging all districts to expedite corrections and coordinate better with local authorities. The remarks came during a review meeting with district education officers (DEOs) held in the city. The meeting, attended by DEOs, regional directors and Samagra Shiksha officials, focused on tracking enrolment trends, learning outcomes, teacher deployment and digitisation of education data.

A presentation based on the Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) 2024–25 data revealed urgent infrastructure gaps in classrooms, laboratories, toilets and electricity across several districts. Officials also reviewed the Performance Grading Index (PGI), where Telangana has shown marginal improvement but continues to lag in foundational learning indicators.

The meeting also covered the status of APAAR (Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry) and learning initiatives such as FLN (Foundational Literacy and Numeracy), LIP (Learning Improvement Programme) and AxL (Assessment at Scale). While some districts reported gains in early-grade learning, others reported stagnation.

Advisor to the government Keshava Rao, who attended as chief guest, called for “educational leadership with heart” and urged administrators to ensure that no child is left behind in the system.

The implementation of PM SHRI schools and Section 12(1)(c) of the RTE Act was also reviewed, along with teacher redistribution plans and progress on school tree plantation drives under Vanamahotsavam. Officials emphasised the need to closely monitor PM POSHAN (mid-day meals) and ensure UDISE entries for student entitlements are completed without delay.
