Lawbreaker Ramesh Sat in Lawmaker’s Chair: Srinivas

Karimnagar: Congress MLA Aadi Srinivas, who won a 15-year-long legal fight on Monday to prove that his arch rival Dr Ch Ramesh was not an Indian citizen, told Deccan Chronicle that the BRS leader was a law-breaker sat in the chair of a law-maker and misled the court with fake documents.
“With a German passport, Dr Ramesh travelled to and from Germany around 45 times. The evidence was produced in the High Court,” Srinivas, who was awarded Rs.25 lakh in costs by the High Court said.
Srinivas, who stayed with the Congress despite political setbacks is currently the government chief whip. He noted that he had not approached not only the High Court, but also the Election Commission of India and the Union home ministry to press his case on several occasions.
"I was fighting for justice for 15 years. I am happy that I have won the legal battle,” Srinivas said. “Having German citizenship, Dr Ramesh got elected as MLA from Vemulawada. He not only cheated the people of Vemulawada but also the country.”
It all began with the elections in 2009, that Dr Ramesh won on a Telugu Desam ticket against Srinivas of the Congress by 1,821 votes. Srinivas approached the High Court alleging that Dr Rameshs’ victory should be set aside for submitting fake documents pertaining to his citizenship.
Dr Ramesh later joined the BRS before the byelections held in 2010
At that time, Srinivas approached the Election Commission (EC) alleging that Dr Ramesh had produced fake Indian citizenship documents. The poll panel withheld the election schedule.
The BRS approached the High Court, which directed the EC to conduct the elections. Dr Ramesh won that bypoll.
In 2013, the High Court dismissed the citizenship of Dr Ramesh and his membership from the Assembly. He approached the apex court and got a stay. In the 2014 Assembly elections, Dr Ramesh again defeated Srinivas.
In 2017, with the orders issued by the Supreme Court, the Union home ministry suspended the citizenship of Dr Ramesh. He however won the following elections in 2019.
Pursuing the case again, the High Court on Monday gave the judgment dismissing his regarding his citizenship. Interestingly, Srinivas won the 2023 Assembly elections from Vemulawada.
