Lapses in Municipal Voter Lists Irk All Parties

Tripathi assured that every objection received so far has been thoroughly examined and steps taken to resolve them transparently

NIZAMABAD: Political parties have raised objections over the draft voters’ lists prepared for municipal elections in Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts, while residents too have submitted complaints about lapses. The number of voters has sharply increased in some municipal divisions of Nizamabad and wards in other towns, while in a few divisions and wards the number has fallen.

In Bodhan and other towns, details of voters from neighbouring villages were also included, prompting political leaders to launch agitations demanding corrections. Municipal commissioners and staff are currently busy with arrangements, and the final draft list is scheduled to be declared on January 10.

District collector Ila Tripathi urged political parties to carefully examine the draft voters’ lists prepared for Nizamabad Municipal Corporation as well as Bodhan, Armoor and Bheemgal municipalities, and to submit objections, corrections or additions if required.

At a meeting with representatives of recognised political parties held on Tuesday at the Integrated District Offices Complex, the Collector said the draft lists were prepared as per Election Commission directions for municipal urban areas. She recalled that the draft was published on December 31 and that meetings had already been conducted municipality-wise with party representatives.

Tripathi assured that every objection received so far has been thoroughly examined and steps taken to resolve them transparently. “If there is information about votes of deceased persons or voters registered in more than one place in the draft list, details should be provided along with proper evidence. Such entries will be removed without fail,” she said.
