Lakdikapul May See One-Way Traffic Soon
Police plan more one-way routes in city to manage traffic

Hyderabad: After implementing a one-way traffic route around KBR Park, the city police are planning similar restrictions between Ravindra Bharathi junction and Lakdikapul bus stop to ease traffic congestion. The traffic restrictions will affect vehicles heading towards Mehdipatnam, Lakdikapul and Khairatabad.
City police commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, along with traffic joint commissioner D. Joel Davis and other senior officials, inspected the proposed routes on Friday. They examined traffic movement and road conditions at Dwarka Hotel, Saifabad police station, HDFC junction, Iqbal Minar, Ravindra Bharati and the Old Control Room.
“Broadly, we arrived at a route but will implement it after taking approval from the government,” a senior police official told Deccan Chronicle.
Under the proposed system, vehicles coming from Sant Nirankari will be diverted at Dwarka Hotel and will join Ravindra Bharati junction via Telephone Bhavan, AG Office and Kamat Hotel road. Those heading towards Masab Tank will have to take a U-turn at Gun Park rotary, which will be reopened after remaining closed for several years.
During the inspection at Lakdikapul, Sajjanar examined the road conditions and the intensity of traffic congestion at various junctions, including Dwarka Hotel, Saifabad posice Station, HDFC, Iqbal Minar, Ravindra Bharathi, and the old Control Room.
Sajjanar said the police were examining the feasibility of introducing one-way traffic restrictions at other congested junctions within the Hyderabad commissionerate limits. He said traffic experts were being consulted on measures to improve vehicular movement.
The commissioner said a decision would be taken after a coordination meeting with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) and the electricity department. The proposed restrictions will initially be implemented on a trial basis to assess traffic movement and minimise inconvenience to motorists.
Sajjanar stated that the police were considering 'one-way' traffic systems in other congested areas within the commissionerate to streamline traffic flow. He said the police were in constant consultation with traffic experts to devise measures that would make commuting easier. He urged the city's residents to cooperate for the sake of better traffic management.
According to the proposals under examination, vehicles traveling from the Nampally side towards Secunderabad will not be allowed towards the Ravindra Bharathi side. They will be diverted via HDFC, the Old Saifabad Police Station, Iqbal Minar and the Secretariat Junction. Vehicles arriving from Nirankari Junction towards the Old Control Room will be diverted at the Old Saifabad Police Station; they will be routed via Iqbal Minar and Ravindra Bharati to reach the Old Control Room. The third change would be vehicles traveling from the Telangana Talli flyover towards the Old Saifabad Police Station (at the Secretariat junction) must proceed from Iqbal Minar towards Ravindra Bharati, take a U-turn at the Old Control Room, and then continue past Assembly Gate No. 3 and the HDFC junction.
