Labour Codes Threaten Workers’ Rights: INTUC

Dr Reddy, who leads the VST Workers’ Union, unveiled the jubilee plaque and praised the society for its 50 years work: Reports

HYDERABAD: Indian National Trade Union Congress president Dr G. Sanjeeva Reddy warned that the rights and safety of workers were under serious threat from the four labour codes brought in by the Modi government.

Speaking at the inaugural of the golden jubilee celebrations of The Vazir Employees Consumers Co-operative Society, Dr Reddy said the labour codes undid the many protections won through decades of struggle and favourd corporate interests over workers’ welfare.

He urged all trade unions to unite and oppose the labour codes. Later, Dr Reddy cut a cake to mark Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s birthday. Several Intuc and VST union leaders attended the event.

Dr Reddy, who leads the VST Workers’ Union, unveiled the jubilee plaque and praised the society for its 50 years work. He pointed out that the Intuc, founded in 1947, had worked to secure fair laws and safe working conditions for workers in the organised and unorganised sectors.
