KTR Wants TG to Pump Godavari Water, Disputes NDSA Report on Barrage

He said water flow at Kannepalli would continue over the next 100 days and added that 200 to 300 tmc ft could be drawn by lifting two to three tmc ft daily

Karimnagar:BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Monday urged the state government to draw Godavari water by operating motors at the Kannepalli pump house.

He said water flow at Kannepalli would continue over the next 100 days and added that 200 to 300 tmc ft could be drawn by lifting two to three tmc ft daily. This, he said, would help fill the Sriramsagar Project and other projects in the state. Rama Rao made the remarks while reviewing water levels at the Lower Manair Dam.

Referring to technical assessments, he said retired engineers had indicated that water could be drawn when the river flows at a width of 93 metres, and alleged that the government had not lifted water despite the Godavari flowing at 97 metres.

He said water was flowing downstream without utilisation and claimed that less than 20 per cent availability remained in the Godavari basin, leading to concerns over irrigation and drinking water supply. Rama Rao alleged that the government was not supplying water to the agriculture sector as it would have to procure crops and pay a bonus on paddy.

He said there was scope to store water at the Annaram and Sundilla barrages, where grouting works were carried out in 2024, and added that water could be supplied to projects through Mid Manair if motors were operated at three locations.

He also expressed concern over drinking water supply in Hyderabad, stating that shortages may arise as there was no water in the Sripada Yellampalli project. He added that power generation at NTPC and the Jaipur power plant could be affected due to water scarcity.

Questioning the delay in lifting water from Annaram and Sundilla, he said both the NDSA and retired engineers had indicated that water could be drawn at a limited level.

Terming the NDSA report as false, Rama Rao questioned how it was prepared within 48 hours and objected to attributing blame to BRS leader K. Chandrashekhar Rao based on what he described as a BJP report.
