KTR Voices Concern Over State’s Agri Sector

Hyderabad: The BRS on Wednesday launched a trenchant attack on the state government on issues related to farmers with the party working president K.T. Rama Rao saying “the agriculture sector in Telangana is in severe distress and the spate of suicides by farmers are in reality, murders by the government.”

Rama Rao was speaking to mediapersons after a meeting of a nine-member party committee headed by former agriculture minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy and set up to study causes for the distress in the farming community. Rama Rao said, “Farmers are committing suicides due to the wrong decisions by the Revanth Reddy government and the Chief Minister’s failure to keep his promises to farmers.”

Rama Rao said the committee would tour all districts beginning January 24 and interact with farmers and find out their problems and the status of implementation of government’s promises to them. “There is no political motive behind our exercise. There are no elections on the horizon and our only goal is to understand what the farmers are going through and prepare a report which will be submitted to former chief minister and party president K. Chandrashekar Rao. We will also make our findings public so people can understand the situation Telangana’s farmers are in,” Rama Rao said.
