KTR, Harish Slam Revanth, Say Law and Order Failing in State

KTR, Harish Rao cite NCRB data to target Congress government

Hyderabad: The BRS on Friday said the law and order situation in the state was rapidly deteriorating and the latest report of the National Crime Record Bureau showed how the Congress government had failed to contain crime rates. In separate statements, BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao, and BRS legislature party deputy leader T. Harish Rao said the situation was a direct reflection of failures of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy who also holds the home portfolio.

The Congress government, Rama Rao said, “must stop misusing the police force against the Opposition and instead focus on strengthening policing and restoring public confidence in law enforcement.” He said there is a rise in “ghastly crimes” and the latest was the murder of the wife of a retired DG-rank IPS officer in the high-security residential area of Prashasannagar.

“The result of the government diverting the entire police machinery to file cases against BRS leaders, and social media activists, and harassing them, is the collapse in law and order we are witnessing,” Rama Rao said.

Harish Rao said the NCRB 2024 report exposed Telangana as one of the most crime-affected states. “The Congress government is focusing on publicity, political vendetta and media management, instead of governance and public safety,” he said.

According to NCRB data, total cognisable crimes increased to 2,17,976 in 2024 from 1,83,644 in 2023. The state’s crime rate stood at 568.9 cases per lakh population, significantly higher than the national average of 418.9. Atrocities against SC/ST communities also rose significantly, he said.

Harish Rao demanded immediate corrective measures, strengthening of intelligence systems, faster investigation of cybercrime and missing person cases, stronger protection for women and children, and accountability from the Congress government on the law and order situation.
