BRS Extends Full Support to BC Bills, Says KTR

BRS leader says only constitutional amendment can ensure genuine BC empowerment

Hyderabad: Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president and MLA K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) on Saturday reiterated his party’s full support to the BC bills introduced by the government in the Legislative Assembly, including the Municipal and Panchayat Raj Act Amendment Bill.

Highlighting BRS chief K. Chandrashekar Rao’s (KCR) long-standing commitment to BC empowerment, KTR recalled that KCR had urged former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to set up a dedicated OBC ministry. He further listed the key positions given to leaders from weaker sections during the BRS regime, noting that Madhusudhanachari was made the first Speaker of Telangana, Swami Goud the first Chairman of the Legislative Council, and BS Prasad the state’s Advocate General.

KTR also pointed out that BRS had nominated several leaders from the community—including K. Kesava Rao, D. Srinivas, Banda Prakash, Lingaiah Yadav, and Vaddiraju Ravichandra—to the Rajya Sabha, underscoring the party’s consistent efforts to uplift BCs.

He recalled that in 2004, as a Union Minister, KCR had met then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh along with BC Welfare Association leader R. Krishnaiah, demanding the creation of a BC Welfare Ministry at both the Centre and in states. KTR said KCR had always stood by BC communities and implemented a clear policy after forming the BRS.
KTR also reminded the House that the Telangana Assembly had passed unanimous resolutions twice under KCR’s leadership seeking a caste census along with the population census and ensuring BC reservations in legislative bodies.
Criticising the Congress, he pointed out that despite earlier promises, the party has been inconsistent on the issue of BC reservations. “If one party speaks in five different ways, how will BCs believe your sincerity? We pursued the matter with honesty, unlike the ruling party which is confused and contradictory,” KTR said.
He also underlined that a constitutional amendment in Parliament is essential to push BC reservations beyond the 50 percent cap, and urged both Congress and BJP to act sincerely in the matter.
