Nalgonda: Kothagudem Town-I police on Monday arrested two members of the banned CPI (Maoist) outfit who had been involved in violent incidents, including attacks on police personnel in Maharashtra and Karnataka.

The arrested Maoists were identified as Oyam Badhu alias Lokesh alias Madas (30), a native of Doddithimminar village in Bijapur mandal of Chhattisgarh and an area committee member of the 10th Company of the South Gadchiroli Division Committee of the CPI (Maoist), and Podiyam Rame alias Shilpa (25), also a member of the banned outfit.

According to police, Lokesh planted four kilograms of IED at Kowande to target security forces and was involved in the killings of Sub-Inspector Shubham Hanmane and Constable Kishore Athram in the Kopparti-Potarkathi forest area. He also planted an IED on the Hemalkasa–Karampally road, which killed Constable Suresh Veladi and injured 20 others. Shilpa allegedly took part in these operations alongside him.

Superintendent of Police Rohit Raju said that intensified combing operations in Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra had forced Maoist cadres to split into smaller groups and seek shelter in other areas.

He added that district police had been keeping a close watch on suspected movements, and the two Maoists were apprehended while moving suspiciously in Kothagudem town.
