Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday decided to drop his Cabinet colleague, Konda Surekha, from the Council of Ministers with immediate effect, amid a row over the remarks made against him and others by the woman leader's daughter. A recommendation to this effect has been made to Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla for the dismissal of Konda Surekha from the Telangana cabinet.
Reacting to the development, Surekha condemned the move, stating that her explanation should have been sought before such a decision was taken.
Speaking to a local vernacular channel, she alleged that she was not consulted as per rule and that no one spoke to her before the decision was taken. Surekha said she had replied to the show-cause notice issued by the Congress high command and had explained her position to AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge when she met him in Delhi.
Asserting that she is a BC candidate, a five-time MLA, and has served as a Cabinet minister twice, she alleged that this was a planned attack against her by local leaders in the region.
Speaking further, she questioned why she was being held responsible for her daughter's remarks, pointing out that her daughter is an independent woman and that she has no authority to take issue with her daughter's personal opinions. Surekha added that she does not see any need to condemn her daughter's comments.
Meanwhile, speculations are rife in political circles that if disciplinary action is taken against her and she is removed from the Cabinet, Surekha is planning to resign both from her MLA post and from the primary membership of the Congress party.
Besides sacking Surekha, the Chief Minister also rescinded the appointment of G Chinna Reddy as Vice Chairman of the State Planning Board with immediate effect and replaced by Gadwal Vijayalakshmi as the new Vice Chairman.
