Konda Surekha’s Former OSD Accused in Extortion Case Surrenders Before Police

Hyderabad:N. Sumath, former aide of former minister Konda Surekha, surrendered before the police on Thursday in connection with the assault and extortion case registered against him and three others based on a complaint by real estate businessman Gongidi Harikrishna.

Sumanth’s surrender came a day after a Nampally court granted him conditional anticipatory bail along with three other accused. The court directed the accused to surrender before the investigating officer and cooperate with the probe.

While a senior police official confirmed Sumanth’s surrender, a police source said Sumanth had been instructed to cooperate with the investigation and appear whenever he was asked to report at the police station. He was also required to remain available during the investigation in accordance with the court’s conditions.

The case was registered after Harikrishna alleged that Sumanth, former officer on special duty (OSD) to Surekha, and threr others — Arun Kumar Reddy, Mahender Reddy and Karthik — assaulted him with an iron rod and sticks at a location in Jubilee Hills. Harikrishna suffered a fracture to his left hand and other injuries and underwent treatment. The Jubilee Hills police had earlier arrested three associates of Sumanth, while efforts were on to trace the remaining accused.

The Nampally court directed Sumanth and the other accused to furnish two personal bonds of `25,000 each. The court also restrained them from influencing or threatening witnesses or tampering with evidence. Sumanth was barred from leaving the country without court permission and was asked to provide his mobile number and residential address to the investigating officer.
