Kompally Records Worst Air Pollution in Hyderabad
TSPCB urges public to rely on CPCB’s SAMEER app for accurate air quality data

Hyderabad: Kompally emerged as the most polluted location in Hyderabad in terms of air quality on Tuesday. It recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 278, which is categorised as poor, according to data from the SAMEER app of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
An official from the Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) cautioned against relying on air quality figures circulating on social media platforms such as X, stating that many users refer to Google-based US AQI (UACP) standards, which are not geographically suitable for India.
“The only reliable data is from the SAMEER (System for Air Quality Monitoring and Early Reporting) app developed by the CPCB, which follows India’s National Ambient Air Quality Standards,” the official said.
As per the Indian AQI classification, air quality is graded as: Good (0-50), Satisfactory (51-100), Moderately Polluted (101-200), Poor (201-300), Very Poor (301-400), and Severe (401-500).
SAMEER data showed that while several parts of the city remained in the moderate or satisfactory range, the Kompally Municipal Office reported a significantly higher AQI of 278. Somajiguda recorded 187 (moderately polluted), Zoo Park 130, ICRISAT Patancheru 131, Central University 129, and Hyderabad city overall stood at 128.
Other locations recorded comparatively better air quality, including ECIL Kapra (88), IDA Pashamylaram (97), IIT Hyderabad at Kandi (73), Nacharam TSIIC (77) and New Malakpet (89).
