Kolanur Village in Rajanna Sircilla District Declares Total Alcohol Ban

Kolanur had earlier been noted for introducing daily singing of the National Anthem

KARIMNAGAR: The Kolanur gram panchayat in Konaraopet mandal of Rajanna Sircilla district has resolved to enforce a total ban on alcohol in the village from May 10. The decision was taken at a recent general body meeting, citing financial strain and social disruption caused by liquor consumption. Local elders said the move aims to restore community harmony and prevent substance abuse among youth. Villagers have extended support to the resolution.

The panchayat has prescribed penalties to ensure enforcement. Those found selling liquor illegally or operating belt shops within village limits will face a fine of Rs 20,000. A reward of Rs 5,000 has been announced for information leading to the seizure of illegal alcohol. The administration also plans awareness programmes to highlight the health risks and economic impact of alcohol addiction, alongside enforcement measures.

Village sarpanch Jalagam Aravind Rao said, “The decision to implement a complete ban on alcohol in Kolanur village was taken based on the collective opinion of the villagers. Many families in the village are facing financial and social difficulties due to alcohol consumption. The impact is especially severe on women and children. Considering this situation, altogether unanimously resolved in the grama sabha to completely ban alcohol for the sake of peace, health and the welfare of families in the village. This is not just a ban, it is a collective responsibility taken for the future of the village.”

Kolanur had earlier been noted for introducing daily singing of the National Anthem. District officials and social activists have welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that the village’s transition into an alcohol-free zone will influence similar measures elsewhere.
