The incident has drawn criticism against the police officer, with several people questioning his alleged inappropriate behaviour in public and the manner in which the protesters were handled.
A man staged a protest on the road in Kodad town of Suryapet district on Friday, alleging that municipal officials had removed his shop without prior notice.
The man was identified as Mandala Upendar. According to reports, the victims alleged that they were not served any notice for the removal of the shop located in Ward 32 of Kodad town.
Following the protest, Kodad Town CI Shiva Shankar and other police officials reached the spot. The protesters staged a demonstration against the municipal commissioner and other officials, demanding action over the removal of the shop.
Police officials allegedly dragged the protesters away from the spot and took them into custody. Further details are awaited.
