Kishan Reddy Urges Singareni To Cut Coal Prices, Boost Quality For Survival
Kishan Reddy warned that the coal sector faced upcoming reforms, and government entities must operate with full commitment or risk survival.

HYDERABAD: Union coal minister G. Kishan Reddy called on Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) to focus on reducing coal prices and improving quality to ensure its sustainable future. He urged the SCCL to take steps to secure new coal blocks and take action to improve worker welfare, during a review at Singareni Bhavan on Saturday.
Kishan Reddy warned that the coal sector faced upcoming reforms, and government entities must operate with full commitment or risk survival. "No one can protect them otherwise," he stated, highlighting new labour laws implemented with worker welfare in mind. He directed strict enforcement and no compromises on employee well-being, alongside efficient use of human resources and planned efforts for new blocks.
Since coal production is SCCL's core business, Reddy advised the company to set up washeries to elevate quality standards and installing new dry washeries. He ordered officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan for the company's future and submit a report.
SCCL Chairman and MD N. Balaram made a presentation on the company’s financial status and future strategies. The minister and senior coal ministry officials discussed issues point-wise.
The meeting was attended by coal secretary Vikram Dev Dutt, state power secretary Naveen Mittal, joint secretary S.K. Kassi, personal secretary Dr Pankaj Jain, senior technical adviser B. Veera Reddy and director, technical, Birendra Kumar Thakur.
