Hyderabad: Union minister for coal and mines G. Kishan Reddy on Saturday welcomed the Telangana High Court’s decision disqualifying Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender, describing it as a victory for the Constitution and a setback to “turncoat and horse‑trading politics” practised by the BRS and Congress.
Speaking to reporters, Kishan Reddy said the verdict should serve as an “eye‑opener” for both parties and urged them to stop violating parliamentary laws for political gains. He said the people of Telangana had welcomed the judgment as it upheld the anti‑defection law.
The minister recalled that defections had been encouraged by successive governments, alleging that Congress and the BRS had followed the same course. He cited the induction of former Congress MLA Sabita Indra Reddy into the BRS without her resignation from the Assembly and accused the Congress of repeating the practice.
Kishan Reddy questioned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s silence on the verdict, saying the party was aware Nagender continued as a BRS legislator when it gave him a Lok Sabha ticket. He asked whether the Congress had the moral right to speak about protecting the Constitution.
He also accused the Congress and BRS of corruption, land sales, excessive borrowing and misuse of power. Alleging that both were family‑based parties, he appealed to Telangana’s intellectuals, youth, writers and artists to examine whether the state’s aspirations had been fulfilled.
At a separate function to mark the nationwide Rozgar Mela in the city, Kishan Reddy handed over appointment letters to newly recruited government employees, saying public service was a responsibility, not merely employment. The 20th Rozgar Mela has taken the total number of appointment letters issued under the programme to about 12.75 lakh, he said.
