Foreign secretary Vikram Misri said India has been working closely with Myanmar on the issue and continues efforts to bring back those who remain trapped

HYDERABAD: Families of 13 Indian nationals, including five from Visakhapatnam and three from Hyderabad, have appealed to the Central government to urgently rescue and repatriate their children trapped in Myanmar’s Kayin state.

According to relatives, the individuals were lured to Myanmar by travel agents with promises of employment and better opportunities. However, they are now stranded in Kayin and facing severe hardship, coercion and inhumane treatment.

Among those listed are Shaik Abdul Sameer, Mir Sajjad Ali and Mohammed Arshad Khan from Hyderabad, and Munukoti Krishna Prasad, Uppu Lokesh, Duvvu Naresh, Syamsundara Rao and Marapureddi Trimurthulu from Visakhapatnam. The remaining individuals belong to Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and West Bengal.

The families said their children have been stuck there for a prolonged period and are living under difficult conditions. They wrote to the ministry of external affairs (MEA) appealing for help.

The MEA recently revealed that 2,411 Indians trapped in cyber scam compounds in Myanmar have been repatriated over the past one and a half years, while more than 150 Indians are still believed to be stranded. Foreign secretary Vikram Misri said India has been working closely with Myanmar on the issue and continues efforts to bring back those who remain trapped.
