Khairatabad Ganesh Festival Begins

Scaffolding and welding works for the 69-feet-tall idol are progressing at full pace: The committee

HYDERABAD: The Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav Committee performed a Sudarshana Homam at the idol site on Saturday, marking the beginning of rituals ahead of this year’s Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender, former MLA Chintala Ramchandra Reddy and sculptor Rajender participated in the ceremony.

The committee said scaffolding and welding works for the 69-feet-tall idol are progressing at full pace. The welded metal framework will serve as the structural base for the massive idol. Organisers assured that all safety protocols are being followed during the construction.

“Donations from devotees are being collected and the idol will be ready by the last week of August. Rituals and poojas will begin soon after,” a committee member said. The Khairatabad Ganesh idol is among the tallest in the country and draws lakhs of devotees every year during the Ganesh festival.
