Kerala Enjoys Distinctive Recognition for Ayurveda in India and Abroad: Bhatti
Bhatti Vikramarka said health does not merely mean the absence of disease. Physical well-being, mental peace, emotional stability and a fulfilling life are equally important aspects of good health.

Hyderabad: Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Tuesday called for protecting India’s rich Ayurvedic heritage while giving greater importance to scientific research, emphasising that health is the most valuable wealth in human life.
He was speaking on health protection, the significance of Ayurveda, public health and social responsibility at the Dhanvantari Maha Yagam held at Sri Dhanvantari Temple in Kanakkoor, Keralam.
Bhatti Vikramarka said health does not merely mean the absence of disease. Physical well-being, mental peace, emotional stability and a fulfilling life are equally important aspects of good health.
He urged everyone to pay greater attention to their health and well-being to cope with the increasing stress associated with today’s fast-paced lifestyle.
He said Dhanteras should be recognised not merely as an auspicious occasion for purchasing gold, but also for its true significance as Dhanvantari Jayanti.
According to Hindu tradition, Lord Dhanvantari, regarded as the divine physician, emerged from the churning of the cosmic ocean carrying a pot of nectar. He symbolises health, healing and the preservation of life. Worshipping Lord Dhanvantari, he said, represents a commitment not only to individual health but also to the well-being of families and society.
Kerala Has Distinctive Place in Ayurveda
The Deputy Chief Minister said Ayurveda occupies a special place in India’s medical heritage. Kerala has earned national and international recognition for its traditional knowledge of medicinal plants and specialised treatment practices.
He observed that the 11-day Dhanvantari Maha Yagam being conducted at the temple would help highlight the importance of health and the richness of India’s traditional medical systems.
Traditional systems of medicine have emphasised not only the treatment of diseases but also prevention, a balanced lifestyle, proper nutrition and living in harmony with nature, he noted.
However, he stressed that Ayurveda must be practised responsibly, scientific research should be encouraged, and patients must be assured of safe medical care.
Public Health Must Be Priority in Development
Bhatti Vikramarka said public health and people’s welfare should remain central to development policies. He emphasised the need for sustained investment in hospitals, primary healthcare centres, medical education, research, disease prevention and public health awareness programmes.
He called upon society to support people suffering from illnesses and families unable to afford medical expenses. He also stressed the importance of treating senior citizens, persons with disabilities and weaker sections with compassion.
The Deputy Chief Minister praised the contributions of doctors, researchers and healthcare workers who work tirelessly to save lives and improve public health.
Recalling the contributions of social reformers such as Mannathu Padmanabhan, Sree Narayana Guru and Ayyankali, he said they worked to spread knowledge and ensure that everyone could live with dignity and self-respect. He also appreciated the initiatives undertaken by the Nair Service Society.
He urged the younger generation to develop a scientific outlook, encourage innovation and cultivate the spirit of inquiry while respecting Indian culture and traditions.
Highlighting the close connection between health and the environment, Bhatti Vikramarka said protecting forests, medicinal plants, clean water resources and biodiversity was essential for the well-being of future generations.
He expressed his wish for peace across the country, harmony in society, and health and happiness in every family.
The Deputy Chief Minister extended his greetings in Malayalam to the organisers of the Dhanvantari Maha Yagam, temple authorities, volunteers and the devotees who had gathered for the occasion.
